About Silverwood
Silverwood Elementary School serves students in grades TK–5, with a current enrollment of approximately 530 students. Each grade level typically has two to three classes, with class sizes ranging from the high 20s to low 30s. Class configurations vary based on enrollment, and in some years, combination classes may be necessary.
Silverwood offers a range of educational services for students with special needs. This includes autism-specific classrooms at each grade level, a resource program for students with learning disabilities, and access to occupational therapy, as well as speech and language services.
For students whose primary language is not English, Silverwood provides a daily English Language Development (ELD) program. The school also benefits from a highly active PTA, which supports school programs and community events. More information about the PTA is available at https://silverwoodpta.com.
The School Site Council (SSC) meets monthly to develop, implement, and monitor school goals. The SSC is composed of both staff and parent representatives. Starting in the 2022–2023 school year, Silverwood began offering an after-school program called CARES.
All Silverwood students participate in weekly classes in music, STEAM, and library.
Silverwood has implemented Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), a proactive approach to promoting positive behavior and school safety. PBIS emphasizes teaching expectations and strategies to students, with a focus on prevention rather than punishment.
Silverwood is one of 30 elementary schools in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District (MDUSD). Most 5th grade students go on to attend Pine Hollow Middle School.
Silverwood has a long-standing tradition of excellence and has been recognized as a California Distinguished School twice in the past six years.
